Gift Ideas #3

Mom liked the idea of a DVD player. Netflix? Perhaps he'd just as soon use the video rental store at Giant Eagle. We could get a Giant Eagle money/gift card to use for movies. (I would hope they wouldn't use it for groceries, but hey, whatever. Maybe they have a video only card.)

Mom also suggested he would get a bang out of a "money tree". You know how mom has done those from time to time, like when Steven would get one. Well, imagine a money tree with 70 one dollar bills. Or a few other bigger bills thrown in for good measure.

One other thing I think we should try to take care of: the dog (Natchez) will have to be put up in a boarding facility for two weeks. It might be nice if we took care of that, somehow. (More cash?)

He does not need any clothes. He has so many from Uncle Wesley and Uncle Lad's closets.

Oh, one other thing. I guess dad loves Dick Underwood's navigation/gps system that he has in his car. The ones that Yao Ming hawks, the Garmin, are $499 at Best Buy. I'm not sure what his needs are, but given some of his driving around and looking for things in his old age, well, this could be helpful. I'm not sure how helpful but... i'm just throwing that out there.

Comments please.

Good point on the GPS assistant. I'm not sure it is worth $499 to him.

So here's a variation on the idea: rather than a straight up money tree, have a tree of 70 envelopes. Some envelopes have cash. Some may have "gifts". (e.g., he opens an envelope and has him look in some closet at Aunt Georgia's and he finds a DVD player, or perhaps merely a gift card of some sort.)

yeah. you can run that by mom. she seemed to have several ideas for "smaller" things but very much hedged on the "bigger" things. But she did like the DVD player idea.

I can see us stuffing envelopes Wednesday evening at the hotel.

We might have to do something creative with a "tree". The typical branch may not be sufficient. We might need to get a silly cheap Christmas tree. (An aluminum one like grandma's.)

ok. we can work with this.

Su-ie and I are driving. We can transport a DVD player if we want to give him something to unwrap. We can haul it back, too. We should be able to transport a few things. We might wish to buy some of the things in Florida, too, if we have the time and opportunity.
